Does this mean I can use Kaspersky protection for free?
Seriously?
Yes. We offer a few of our security solutions for free. They can be used for an unlimited period of time; as we’ve said, there are no pitfalls.
What are these solutions?
Kaspersky Free antivirus is available to users across the globe. In addition, many solutions have a publicly available free version with basic functions. For example, Kaspersky Internet Security for Android, a mobile protection service, or Kaspersky Safe Kids, a kids’ protection service, provide that option.
What do the free versions include?
Free versions meet users’ basic needs. The paid versions provide more advanced functions, expanded settings, an unlimited number of entries in the password manager, and unlimited VPN traffic.
Why does Kaspersky offer free protection even though it has spent hundreds of millions of dollars on development?
We have two reasons for this. The first is:
We’re here to save the world. We offer basic protection for free in order to support those who need this.
The second reason is:
It’s essential for us to understand how many problems and threats people are facing. 400 million users worldwide are protected by our technologies. This is a lot, but the landscape of threats is constantly changing. The more people use our solutions, the more information we have on how cyber-criminals try to harm them, and the better and faster our protection works.
What user data does the free software collect?
All data processed by Kaspersky is divided into the three key purposes for which it is used, in short these encompass: (a) supporting key product functionality, (b) increasing the effectiveness and performance of the protection components, and (c) offering improved and more suitable solutions to customers and providing them with the appropriate content.
All data sent to Kaspersky by users is not attributed to a specific individual and is anonymized wherever possible. Actions to achieve this include deleting account details from transmitted URLs, obtaining hash sums of threats instead of the exact files, obscuring user IP addresses etc.
Customers voluntarily agree to send this data to Kaspersky, by accepting different agreements, which vary depending on the product or service used. The data provided is protected, even during transit, in accordance with stringent industry standards, including encryption, digital certificates, segregated storage and strict data access policies.
Kaspersky constantly reviews the type of data processed by its solutions to protect our customers’ privacy and comply with the very latest legal requirements, such as the GDPR regulations in Europe.
How is it possible that the free versions are ad-free?
We are not interested in people having negative experiences related to our free solutions. That’s why they are free of any pop-ups and ads. The software sends you only the information specific to its function, such as warnings about dangerous links. Sometimes, we send useful information, such as advice on secure online behavior, or special offers on products with extended functions. The user can choose whether to receive, or not to receive, such information.
